Handcrafted soap is REAL soap, not a synthetic detergent bar like the majority of store bought products. Real soap is made from various animal and vegetable oils, sodium hydroxide - otherwise known as “lye”, water, and possibly the addition of colors and fragrances.

What? Lye? That can't be good for human skin! You're right - it's not. Here's what's cool about real soap: when lye and oils combine, a chemical reaction occurs. At the end of that reaction, called the saponification process, no lye remains, and the oils have been turned into soap.

Another cool thing happens during this process. Glycerine is formed. Yes, handmade soap contains glycerine which is a humectant. Humectants draw moisture to the skin. Awesome!

And that's not all! Soap makers can adjust the amounts of oil and lye so that not all of the oil is turned to soap. That leftover oil is called superfat and it is available to stay on your skin with every use. Frontier Soap uses a superfat percent of at least 8%, meaning that much of each bar has not been turned to soap and will be appreciated by your skin shower after shower. It just doesn't get any better than that!
